Characteristics :

A teak tree is a tropical tree that can grow up to 50 feet high. The wood is light in color but is very dense. Teak wood is naturally resistant to water because the tree secretes an oil that repels water. This is one reason why teak wood is used outdoors. Teak wood is durable because of its density, and teak products will last for many years without looking worn or damaged.

Benefits

• One of the main benefits is the life span of the wood once it is cut. Some unfinished teak products can last for more than 30 years. Finished teak products last even longer. The hard surface of the wood makes it resistant to scratching and denting, and the natural oils in the wood prevent it from drying out. Another benefit to teak is its water resistance. Even though teak will not resist all water, it repels water much better than most other wood. Because of this, it also resists mold and mildew.

Uses

• Teak wood is often used to make furniture both for indoors and out. The hardness of the wood produces durable furniture that will last for years. The wood is also used for decks, which are typically golden or reddish gold in color. The wood is also used indoors for flooring as an alternative to other hardwoods such as oak.
